Accessible webcasts

Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Communications Act 2003 "Access to media" encourages information providers to offer accessible alternatives to their content, and this does not exclude webcasts. MultiStream has pioneered one of the World’s first live webcast transcription services, that enables subtitles from professional palantypists or stenographers to be captured and relayed, in real time, along side the video and audio content.

Our accessible webcast service was a result of spotting that simply adding subtitles to the video feed does not offer the legibility required to provide the best user experience. MultiStream were careful to build an accessible environment that not only presents the text as ‘plain text;’ but allows users to retain control over the font size used within the browser.
