Infrastructure

Content delivery networks

Possibly the most critical (and all too often overlooked) element of any webcast is the infrastructure that takes your content and delivers it to the viewer.

This ‘last mile’ is critical and as it is often impossible to predict the number and physical location of your viewers, failure to properly prepare could have disastrous results. MultiStream have established a series of solutions that can scale from the delivery of a webcast to a handful of known viewers up to delivery of major events that need the capacity to deliver your content to hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users across the planet.

Internal delivery
Organisations may wish to deliver content across their corporate network, for example replacing costly satellite based business TV services, or simply expanding the impact of internal meetings across different sites.

MultiStream can provide temporary delivery infrastructure that can be deployed on internal networks to facilitate the reliable delivery of content internally.

Small-scale delivery
If you’re not expecting thousands of viewers, or indeed accesses from every corner of the globe, we have our own delivery network that can provide a highly reliable yet extremely low cost method of delivering your content to the intended audience.

Global delivery
Our global delivery provider is the single largest network provider in the World, and they carry some 20% of all global internet traffic. Their network consists of 20,000 servers across 100 networks located in 71 countries across the globe and it regularly delivers some of the biggest events on the planet such as the Olympics. Some major network providers, including the BBC, use this network as ‘spill over’ when their own content delivery networks are unable to cope with demand.

The network operates around the latest concept of ‘edge’ computing, whereby viewers are intelligently directed to a server nearest to them, therefore distributing the load and delivering the best user experience possible.

Which ever delivery network we establish is best for your event, we’ll make sure you get the reporting information you need to evaluate the success of your transmission. The great thing about webcasts, is that you know exactly what’s been going on – and reporting information on number of viewers, formats, durations, speeds and even geographic locations can be provided.

If you've media content you'd like us to host drop us a line or give us a bell, and we'll see what we can do to help.
