Telehealth

MultiStream were contracted to provide live 'real-time' streaming services for the TeleHealth Summit, which took place in Cardiff. The summit saw a collaboration between the Welsh Development Agency (WDA) and the Welsh Assembly Government, focused on developing Wales as a centre of TeleHealth excellence.

The Summit was held to network and broker partnerships across the spectrum of social and healthcare professionals, suppliers and budget holders.

Professor Heinz WolfThe two day conference from the prestigious Macdonald Holland House Hotel focused on how technology can be used to improve the health of the nation – high profile speakers, including John Griffiths AM, Deputy Minister from Health and Social Care and Professor Heinz Wolf, from Brunel University, outlined how important technology will become in modern medicine and that empowering the patient to remain independent is to become the health technologists' mantra.

Given that remote diagnosis and care is central to TeleHealth and that the use of communication technology underpins many TeleHealth applications, the event organisers were keen to open the sessions to attendees who may have been unable to attend. Through a partnership with the event organisers Merlin. MultiSteam were asked to deliver live streaming and an 'on-demand' archive of the proceedings after the event had concluded.

Streaming rackMerlin provided a vision mixed feed from three broadcast cameras, which, along with a stereo audio signal, were then encoded using one of MultiStream's portable encoder rigs on site at the conference venue. The encoded streams were up-linked via temporary multiple ISDN circuits to the MultiStream streaming infrastructure – users could log on to live content directly through a special page of the event website, and review high quality video/ audio of the event in progress.

An archive of the live content is available from theTeleHealth website and to view the streams you'll need Real Player .
