Uk Intellecutual Property Office

MultiStream were commissioned by the UK Intellectual Property Office (formally known as the Patent Office) to provide live webcast coverage of their Seminar on Counterfeiting and Enforcement on 17th October 2008.

The event was part of a Europe wide project funded by the European Commission the aim of which is to raise awareness of Intellectual Property (IP) issues and the impact that theft of IP Rights can have on small businesses. It is currently estimated that over £1billion is lost in the UK each year through counterfeiting, plagiarism and IP theft, so with tough economic looming on the horizon the event was especially topical.

IPO image_smallThe seminar contained presentations from expert speakers who discussed a range of topics such as what IP theft means to business, the role of enforcement agencies, the damage IP crime does to society and what action can be taken against those who infringe IP rights.

The seminar was conducted at Coventry Techno Centre, a leading multimedia conference facility based at Coventry University. MultiStream provided a live audio webcast of the full day of presentations, and in addition to the live encoding and content delivery, the MultiStream team also provided audio production services for the event to provide the IPO team with a fully ‘joined up’ solution.

The on demand content audio content was made available soon after the event had finished and within a matter of days the on demand content was expanded to included simulcast slides, which enables the viewer to watch slides in real time as if they were at the conference.

The webcast was a first for the UK Intellectual Property Office and has been considered a good success. It delivered over 7 hours of near continuous live content and the viewing results were impressive for an event of this size - over 410 visitors from two continents tuned in to learn more about the importance of Counterfeiting and Enforcement within the IP arena.
